| © Edmund Nägele 2006 Ilfracombe with its natural harbour and elegant Victorian architecture, is the largest town on the North coast of Devon and dates right back to the Bronze Age. The town's name is derived from the Anglo Saxon "Alfrincombe" which means "wooded Valley of Alfred", after King Alfred.
